Porsche Boxster S
Porsche unveils the third generation Boxster in March 2012. Thanks to its lightweight design, the new Porsche Boxster – dubbed generation 981 – weighs up to 35 kg less than its predecessor, with about 40 percent increase in torsional stiffness. Porsche engineers further refine the highly efficient six-cylinder flat engine for the typical roadster ride with a slightly increased top-end performance and 360 Nm of torque in the Boxster S between 4,500 and 5,800 revs. The new suspension with the wheelbase extended by 60 millimetres and a wider track as well as the electronic driving assistance systems set up for high driving dynamics round out the package. On 19 September, 2012, production of the Boxster generation Type 981 starts at Volkswagen Osnabrück with the Boxster S. With the production at the Osnabrück plant, Porsche continues a tradition that started when Karmann built the early 356 B hard-top coupés there in the 1960s.
