Porsche 928 GTS
Launched in autumn 1977, the Porsche 928 is conceived as a luxurious grand touring car. Designed for long distance travelling, the 2x2-seater still features typical Porsche sports car traits. The water-cooled, light-alloy V8 is mounted low under the front hood to achieve a low centre of gravity. Thanks to the transaxle layout with the gearbox in the rear, the weight distribution in the 928 is excellent. Lightweight design contributes to the agility of the car: the front fenders, doors, front lid and suspension are made of aluminium. The newly-designed “Weissach” rear axle improves driving stability and active safety. In autumn 1991, Porsche announces the 928 GTS as the last and most powerful version of the model range. While the history of the 928 began with 240 horsepower, the four-valve unit of the 928 GTS puts out 350 hp and generates 500 Nm of torque. The brake discs now measure 322 millimetres at the front axle. Porsche produces 2,831 units of the 928 GTS.
