Porsche RS Spyder

After focusing on GT sport for a number of years, Porsche returns to prototype racing end 2005. The RS Spyder is designed for the Prototype 2 Class of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at Weissach from a proverbial clean sheet of paper. Featuring a carbon-fibre monocoque and a new V8 mid-engine, the two-seater proves swift from day one. Porsche and its US partner Penske Racing win all ALMS titles in their class in 2006 and 2007. The RS Spyder from 2008 receives enhanced aerodynamics for additional downforce on the twisty street circuits of the American race series. Halfway through the season, Porsche pioneers direct fuel injection for high-revving race engines. With better driveability and more power, the V8 consumes less fuel. Works drivers Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas clinch two overall victories with the #7 car against more powerful Class 1 Prototypes and, with four class wins, contribute to Porsche and Penske Racing notching up another title victory.
