Porsche GT Team

Porsche tackles two top-league GT racing series with the new 911 RSR in 2017: In the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC, including the Le Mans 24-hour race as the season highlight, and in the IMSA SportsCar Championship, the Porsche GT Team faces tough opposition with the GT racer, which was constructed from scratch in Weissach.

After a one-year break, Porsche celebrates a comeback with the new 911 RSR in the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC – much to the delight of motor racing fans. The Porsche GT Team fields two cars in the GTE-Pro class, in which Porsche took a clean sweep of the championship trophies for manufacturers, drivers and teams back in 2015. The cockpit of the #91 car is shared by Richard Lietz (Austria), winner of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Cup as best GT pilot, and Frédéric Makowiecki (France) with the sister 911 RSR (#92) manned by Michael Christensen (Denmark) and Kévin Estre (France). At the Le Mans 24 Hours, Patrick Pilet (France/91) and Dirk Werner (Germany/92) will join the team.

Competing in the GTE-Am class, where vehicles must comply with the GTE-Pro specifications of the previous years, is the Porsche customer team Dempsey Proton Racing. The drivers of the #77 911 RSR are Porsche Young Professional Matteo Cairoli (Italy) together with Christian Ried (Germany) and Marvin Dienst (Germany).

Two 911 RSR in the USA and Canada

In the IMSA SportsCar Championship, the premier sports car series in North America, the Porsche GT Team also runs two new 911 RSR. Twelve races in the USA and Canada make up the calendar, including such major long-distance classics as the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring as well as Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Sharing the #91 911 RSR is Patrick Pilet (France), the IMSA GT Champion of 2015, and Dirk Werner (Germany). This year, the pair contested the Daytona 24 Hours for Porsche for the first time together and took second place. Sharing the cockpit of the #92 sister car are their works driver colleagues Kévin Estre (France) and Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium). At the long distance races in Daytona and Sebring as well as at Petit Le Mans, they will receive support from Frédéric Makowiecki (France/#911) and Richard Lietz (Austria/#912).

Gianmaria Bruni (Italy) joined the Porsche works driver squad on July 1, 2017. He contests the IMSA SportsCar Championship with Laurens Vanthoor.

Completely new development

The 911 RSR replaces the most successful GT race car of the last years, which secured no less than 22 victories and eight championship titles between 2013 and 2016. The sports car celebrated its race debut in January 2017 at the Daytona 24 Hours.  The new GT racer from Weissach is a completely new development: the suspension, body structure, aerodynamic concept, engine and transmission have all been designed from scratch. The power plant, now positioned in front of the rear axle, puts out around 375 kW (510 hp) depending on the size of the restrictor. Thanks to a particularly large rear diffuser combined with a top-mounted rear wing, the level of downforce and the aerodynamic efficiency were significantly improved. The new factory design of the 911 RSR with the basic colours of white, red and black, has further developed the clear and dynamic design language of Porsche Motorsport.

Successful start into the season for 911 GT3 R

The 911 GT3 R kicked off its second season at Daytona featuring the ultra-modern, four-litre, flat-six engine with direct fuel injection. Porsche had designed the 500+hp customer sports racer for worldwide GT series on the basis on the 911 GT3 RS production sports car. In developing the new car, engineers placed special emphasis on uncompromising lightweight design, improved aerodynamic efficiency, lower fuel consumption and even better driveability.

In 2017, the customer teams will campaign the 911 GT3 R in international racing series such as the IMSA SportsCar Championship (GTD class), the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the ADAC GT Masters as well as at selected long-distance races.
