GT Works Programme

Porsche GT Team

In 2018, the Porsche GT Team competes in international GT racing with the Porsche 911 RSR all over the world: The Porsche squad tackles both the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC, including the highlight of the season with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Fight for the world championship

In the FIA WEC, the Porsche GT Team fights for the world championship title with two Porsche 911 RSR. The 510 hp racer from Weissach, based on the seventh generation of the iconic 911 sports car, celebrated its FIA WEC debut last season and achieved second in the Sports Car World Endurance Championship. The Porsche GT Team fields two factory-run vehicles in the GTE-Pro class. In this class in 2015, Porsche won all championship titles for manufacturers, drivers and teams. Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz make a bid for the title in the #91 car. The #92 sister car is helmed by Michael Christensen and Kévin Estre.

In the GTE-Am class of the FIA WEC, the 911 RSR will also be campaigned by customer teams: Six customer-run 911 RSR will contest the Le Mans 24-hour race, with four 911 RSR fielded by customer squads in the Sports Car World Endurance Championship.

Victory at Le Mans

For the 86th edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, Porsche ran four works cars – the biggest GT contingent the Stuttgart manufacturer has fielded to date: Both Porsche GT Teams from the FIA WEC and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship each campaigned two ca. 510 hp GT racers from Weissach. The #91 cockpit was shared by Gianmaria Bruni, Richard Lietz and Frédéric Makowiecki. Kévin Estre, Michael Christensen and Laurens Vanthoor maned the #92 car, with Patrick Pilet, Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber competing in the #93 contender. Sharing driving duties in the #94 Porsche 911 RSR were Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Sven Müller.

Racing in the USA and Canada

The Porsche GT Team also fields two Porsche 911 RSR in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. On the race calendar of North America’s premier sports car series are illustrious long-distance classics such as the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. This year, one of the most successful duos of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is reunited. Like in their championship winning season of 2015, Nick Tandy and Patrick Pilet share the cockpit of the Porsche 911 RSR with the starting number 911. The #912 sister car is piloted by the two-time outright Le Mans winner Earl Bamber and Laurens Vanthoor, the champion of the Intercontinental GT Challenge and Blancpain Series.

Upgrade for the Porsche 911 GT3 R

For 2018, the successful customer-run Porsche 911 GT3 R racer has received an upgrade: The parts kit, which can be used to upgrade all vehicles of the 2016 and 2017 model years, includes a new front lid to optimise thermal management plus side flicks to improve the aerobalance. The 500 hp customer sport racer started the 2018 season with second place overall at the Dubai 24-hour race.

Customer teams field the Porsche 911 GT3 R at international GT races, such as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (GTD class), the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, the Pirelli World Challenge, the ADAC GT Masters as well as selected long-distance races.
