Successful commitment

Porsche Team Germany

In 2012, Porsche intensified its commitment to German women’s tennis by forming Porsche Team Germany. Success was not long in coming: After a 22-year gap, the German national team – led by Angelique Kerber – once again reached the Fed Cup final in 2014.

As a Premium Partner of the Deutsche Tennis Bund (DTB – German Tennis Association), Porsche not only supports Porsche Team Germany but is also committed to developing young players through the Porsche Talent Team. Since the beginning of the close collaboration between Porsche and the DTB, German women’s tennis has been able to enjoy major successes, especially the two Porsche Brand Ambassadors. In 2016, Angelique Kerber sparked renewed interest in tennis in Germany when celebrating her first Grand Slam win at the Australian Open and then, after successfully defending her Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, going on to claim the US Open. In 2018, she fulfilled her dream by becoming the Wimbledon champion. In the last two years Julia Görges has won four tournaments including the WTA Elite Trophy in 2017. The new dynamism in German women’s tennis is also noticeable in the world rankings: After the 2018 Australian Open, two German players – Angelique Kerber and Julia Görges – were ranked in the world Top 10 for the first time since Steffi Graf and Anke Huber.

“We’re proud of the successes of our brand ambassadors and it always gives us great pleasure when top German players are successful as a team,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “Playing tennis for the many young talented players in the clubs is far more fun when they have role models they can emulate. We want to play a part in ensuring there will continue to be such role models in the future.”

Captained by the national coach Jens Gerlach, the team this season is made up of Mona Barthel, Julia Görges, Anna-Lena Grönefeld, Angelique Kerber, Sabine Lisicki, Antonia Lottner, Tatjana Maria, Andrea Petkovic, Laura Siegemund, Carina Witthöft and Anna-Lena Friedsam.
