Aces for a good cause

Charity

The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix has been supporting its charity partners by means of the Aces for Charity campaign since 2006. At the 42nd edition of the long-standing tournament, they are the Jürgen Klinsmann’s Stiftung Agapedia and the Landessportverband Baden-Württemberg.

The Stiftung Agapedia sees itself as a “manufacturer of humanity” and is involved in a variety of projects to support children in need. The aim of its activities is to help needy children directly and promote societal developments through sustainable projects. Agapedia runs a children’s home in nearby Esslingen providing meaningful after-school leisure activities organized by qualified personnel. In addition to homework supervision, the activities include sport and games and creative arts. As a part of the work, it also conveys social competencies and language skills.

With its 3.7 million members and approximately 12,000 clubs, the Landessportverband Baden-Württemberg – the state sports association – is the biggest association of people in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Its responsibilities include the funding of elite and junior sport as well as developing basics for the coaching system. It additionally organizes the “Coach of the Year” awards ceremony in the Porsche Museum. Its share of the donation from the “Aces for Charity” campaign will fund its “Integration through Sport” initiative. Financial and material support as well as seminars and workshops are designed to initiate an inter-cultural opening up of the cooperating clubs. In doing so, seminars focusing on intercultural sensibilization will attempt to instill a more open attitude towards migration and integration.

As a part of the “Aces for Charity” campaign, 100 euro will be donated to the charity partners for every ace hit during the course of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. In 2018, 263 aces were hit. The sum donated was rounded up by Porsche to 30,000 euro and given to Agapedia, “Olgäle Stiftung” and the “Kinder- und Jugendhospiz Stuttgart” organizations. The handing over of the checks will take place on the Centre Court in the Porsche Area on finals day.
